PRIMARY PURPOSE:
The Sports Performance Assistant shall have responsibility of collaborating with the Director of Sports Performance in the design and implementation of strength training and conditioning programs in‐season, off‐season, and pre‐season for all school‐sanctioned male and female athletic programs.  The Sports Performance Assistant is responsible for independently executing assigned training sessions and station responsibilities as written, and for scheduling, attending, and supervising after-school weight training programs under the direction of the Director.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES
  • Assist in designing and implementing strength training and conditioning programs for all school‐sanctioned athletic programs.
  • Collaborate with the Director to develop training schedules.
    Attend and supervise after school weight training programs.
    Assist in coaching weight training classes during the school day as assigned.
  • Devote full attention to student-athletes during the workouts.
    Work in cooperation with the sports medicine or athletic training staff in the rehabilitation and strengthening of injured athletes.
  • Facilitate a collaborative relationship among sport coaches, sports medicine, and the strength and conditioning staff.Assist
  • in designing and implementing policies and procedures for the strength and conditioning program in accordance with the NSCA Strength and Conditioning Professional Standards Guidelines.
  • Working with coaches develop systems for tracking athlete attendance and progress.
  • Determine and reinforce expectations for athlete conduct that mirror the school’s expectations for curricular and extra‐curricular activities, as stated in the school’s Student Code of Conduct.
  • Establish and communicate weight room rules, guidelines, and expectations.
  • Encourage every team to workout in the weight room in and out of season.
  • Assist in the communication of strength and conditioning program objectives to coaches and athletes.
  • Assist in organizing special events, banquets, signing days, acknowledgements, and speaker events.
  • Assist as needed with summer camps.
  • Independently execute assigned training sessions, station assignments, and coaching responsibilities as written, including those detailed in session plans and staff assignment matrices, without requiring repeated direction.
  • Actively coach and manage assigned athlete groups, maintaining command presence, attention, and control of the training environment.
  • Maintain professional, athlete-centered conduct during all sessions, remaining at assigned stations and attending to assigned duties rather than non-essential conversation.
  • Exercise situational awareness and sound judgment regarding when to observe, engage, or defer during sessions, consultations, and staff interactions.
  • Take initiative to identify and resolve routine coaching and operational issues before escalation.
  • Carry out other duties as may be assigned by the Athletic Director and or principal 
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Kinesiology or related field.
  • A current relevant professional certification credentialed by an independent accreditation agency Such as the NSCA Certified
  • Strength and Conditioning Specialist® (CSCS®) certification.
  • Current standard first aid, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), and automated external defibrillation (AED) certifications.
  • A strong working knowledge and teaching skills in analysis and techniques of strength training.
  • Experience in strength and conditioning programming for high school populations.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Strong motivational skills.  
  • Ability to interact positively with student athletes, colleagues, and the public.
  • Knowledge of NSCA Strength and Conditioning Professional Standards and Guidelines.
  • Knowledge of universal hygiene precautions.
  • Demonstrated experience independently leading and managing group strength and conditioning sessions.
  • Ability to maintain command presence and manage athlete behavior in a group training environment.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
  • Work in a standard office, school building, and athletic training environments.
  • Visually monitor athletes.
  • Prolonged periods of sitting, standing, and walking.
  • Regular use of fingers and hands.
  • Physically fit and able to demonstrate appropriate techniques to athletes.
  • Swift movement, lifting, carrying, and moving work-related supplies and equipment.
  • Lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds.
TRAVEL REQUIRED
  • Travel to school buildings, work assignments, and meetings as required.
