The mission of St. Vincent-St. Mary High School's Comprehensive School Counseling Program is to advocate for an environment that supports high achievement for all students and will empower them to become effective learners, responsible citizens, and productive members of a global workforce.
In collaboration with other educators and families, the counseling program enables all students to experience educational success by providing preventative and responsive services in the areas of academic, career, and personal-social development to help students reach their full potential.
The Counseling Department at St. Vincent-St. Mary High School is committed to meeting the unique intellectual, physical, social, and emotional needs of each student. We have a dedicated team of 5 licensed school counselors that have many years of experience in this field.
Ms. Arica Zimmer is a full-time school counselor and is assigned to students with last names (S-Z). She assists students with personal, social, academic, and career counseling. She works with students through individual, small group and classroom counseling lessons.
Ms. Zimmer graduated from John F. Kennedy Catholic High School in Warren, OH. She attended Walsh University for her undergraduate degree in Psychology and Sociology. She then continued her education at Walsh, where she earned her graduate degree in School Counseling while also working in Walsh University’s Office of Student Affairs.
Mr. Terrell Mike is full-time counselor and is assigned to students with the last names (A-F). He assists students with personal, social, academic and career counseling. He works with students through individual, small group and classroom counseling lessons. Mr. Mike is the IOWA test coordinator and the co-coordinator for AP.
Mr. Mike earned his undergraduate degree in Sociology from William Paterson University. He earned his Masters in Counseling from the University of Akron.
Mrs. Malia Miller earned a Bachelor of Science degree in English Education from Bowling Green State University and a Master of Arts in Counseling and Human Development from Walsh University. She also earned National Board Certification through NBPTS. She is an adjunct faculty member at Stark State College and Malone University in addition to her work at STVM. She has 30 years experience as a professional school counselor.
Mrs. Adkins VM15 was born and raised in Ohio and is an STVM Class of 2015 alumni. She attended the University of Akron where she received her undergraduate degree in Psychology. She then attended Kent State University where she received her Masters of Education in School Counseling degree. Ms. Paolucci works with students who last names start (G-K).
Our four full-time counselors are Mrs. Adkins, Ms. Crooks, Mr. Mike and Ms. Zimmer.
Our school counselor’s caseloads are broken up by last name: Mr. Mike (A-F), Mrs. Adkins (G-K), Ms. Crooks (L-R) and Ms. Zimmer (S-Z). The school counselors conduct a Freshman Parent Night, College Credit Plus Parent Night and additional parent nights as needed. They also coordinate an annual College Fair and Career Fair.
We also have a college counselor, Mrs. Miller.
Our college counselor is Mrs. Miller. Our Counselor will start meeting with students individually their junior year and also through classroom lessons to help them navigate the college process. The counseling department also conducts a Junior Parent Night and Senior/FAFSA Parent Night.
