Akron Community Foundation is a comprehensive, searchable website for Summit County Ohio high school students who are interested in pursuing a post-secondary education. Through this website, students and parents can search for available local scholarships and review information about college preparation. Corporations and private foundations can also post scholarships through the online submission tool.

    Engineers Foundation of Ohio

    The Mensa Foundation Scholarship Program

    AAA Ohio Auto Club Scholarship

    Deadline: February 25 
    Amount: Five, $1,000 scholarships will be awarded
    Eligibility: Seniors who served as AAA School Safety Patrol members. Application available at 

    Greater Akron Touchdown Club Foundation 

    Deadline: March 1
    Amount: Various
    Eligibility: **This scholarship program will end after the 2021-22 school year.** Must plan to attend college next fall and earn at last one varsity letter for participation in an interscholastic sport. Apply online here(The link to the application is blocked by the school’s firewall, but available outside of the building.)

    Urban League Scholarship

    Deadline: February 18
    Amount: Various
    Eligibility: Must be planning to attend a trade school or college for the upcoming fall. Must reside and attend high school in summit county. Volunteer a minimum of 20 volunteer service hours at the Akron Urban League (after the scholarship awardees are announced). Must have at least a 2.5 GPA. Apply here:

    Simon Youth Community Scholarship Program

    Deadline: February 16
    Amount: $1,500 one time award
    Eligibility: First generation college students who live near a Simon mall (Summit Mall and Aurora Farms are Simon-owned). Apply online at

    Optimist Club of Akron CCDHH Scholarship

    Deadline: June 1
    Amount: $3500
    Eligibility: Students through grade twelve with a hearing loss of 40 decibels or more. Application available at

    University of Akron Choose Ohio First STEM Scholarship Program

    Deadline: March 1 
    Amount: Up to $5,200
    Eligibility: Any high school senior or current UA students or transfers are eligible. The program awards scholarships up to $5,200 to students majoring in science, technology, engineering, math and medicine (or math/science education) at The University of Akron. This scholarship is renewable if a GPA of 3.00 is maintained. Visit to access the application. 

    Ohio Oil and Gas Energy Scholarship

    Deadline: March 1st
    Amount:  $1,000 renewable scholarship
    Eligibility: US Citizen/Ohio resident attending an Ohio college with a career goal in the crude oil and natural gas industry.  2.5 GPA required. Application can be downloaded here.

    Ohio Gas Association Scholarship

    Deadline: March 1st
    Amount:  $1,000 (renewable for 3 additional years
    Eligibility: Must have a career goal in the natural gas or related energy field, possess a 3.0 GPA or higher. Application can be downloaded here.

    Optimist Club of Akron Oratorical Contest

    Deadline: March 3
    Amount: $2,500-$2,500

    University of Akron Army ROTC Scholarship

    Deadline: Deadlines vary
    Amount: Full tuition, monthly stipend, and book allowance
    Eligibility:  Seniors with a GPA of 2.5 or higher and a 19 or higher on the ACT. Must serve wither 4 years active duty or 6 years in Reserves or National Guard.

    Ohio Catholic Federal Credit Union

    Deadline: March 15
    Amount: $1,000 need based
    Eligibility: Credit Union members who attend Catholic High School. If a student wishes to be nominated for this, see your college counselor. Application available at

    Horatio Alger State Scholarship

    Deadline: March 15
    Amount: Varies up to $10,000
    Eligibility: Junior who demonstrate critical financial need and demonstrated perseverance in overcoming adversity. Application available at

    The Archbishop Hoban Scholarships 

    Deadline: December 1st
    Amount: Various
    Eligibility: The Archbishop Hoban Scholarships are offered to eligible seniors in the Catholic high schools of the Diocese. Accordingly, the following scholarships will be awarded:
    1. Scholarships to John Carroll University
    2. Scholarships to Notre Dame College
    3. Scholarships to Ursuline College
    • Nominees must be graduates of accredited high schools.
    • Nominees must carry full-time schedules at the college or university.
    • All nominees and recipients must start their scholarships with the next regular session following the award.
    • All nominees must meet entrance requirements of the college or university and be approved by the President.
    • Scholarships do not apply to the summer session, are not redeemable in money, and are not transferable in any way.

    Junior Women’s Civic Club

    Cuyahoga Falls Chamber of Commerce Foundation Scholarship

    Optimist Club of Akron Scholarship 

    Deadline: April 15
    Amount: $1,500 - four will be awarded to two male and two female students 
    Eligibility: Must be a graduating seniors that plans to attend the University of Akron in the fall. Download the application

    National Academy of Television Scholarship

    Deadline: April 15
    Amount: $2,000
    Eligibility: Available to seniors who plan to attend a four-year college with intentions to pursue a career in television or television-related field. The application is accessed through their site - Once at the site, the scholarship application is under the "Students" tab.

    H.O.P.E. Scholarship

    Amount: $1,000
    Eligibility: Open to any SHC Members unmarried child or grandchild in their efforts to gain a higher education in a disability related field as defined by the SHC Scholarship committee. Applicants will be judged on volunteer experience, related volunteer experience, essay content, letter of reference.     Homer Unkefer Agricultural Scholarships

    Deadline: March 31
    Amount: Five - $1,000
    Eligibility: Seniors with a 3.0 or higher GPA in Carroll, Columbiana, Stark, or Summit County who plan to pursue an agricultural related career. Download the application.

    Joy Park Scholarship

    Eligibility: Seniors with 2.75 GPA or higher graduating from an Akron area high school and involved in the community. Application available here.

    Hudec Dental Scholarship

    Deadline: March 31
    Amount: 1st place = $2500, 2nd place = $1500, 3rd place = $1000
    Eligibility: Graduate from a Northeast Ohio High School with a 3.0 GPA or higher and participate in community service. Visit to apply.

    Fields of Learning Scholarship

    Amount: $1,000
    Eligibility: You must write an essay. Please see the following information and additional information located at Essays should tell us something you learned related to high school football.  This is not limited to experiences of actually being on the high school football team.  For example, maybe you learned something as a cheerleader, a band member or as a fan who attended games.  Maybe you learned something from an experience a friend or relative had.  Or maybe high school football had an impact on your school or your community that ultimately had an effect on you.  Really, anything you think of that has any connection at all to high school football is fine to submit.

    Iota Sigma Pi Scholarship

    WISE (Women in Sports and Events)

    Deadline: April 1
    Amount: Varies
    Eligibility: Scholarship for female residents of Cuyahoga, Lake, Geauga, Medina, Lorain, Summit or Portage Counties interested in pursuing a degree in sports management, events management, or related fields. This award is not given based on athletic skill or achievement. Amount of scholarship varies. Seniors accepted to an accredited college with a 2.75 GPA or higher who have shown a history of participation in event planning or volunteerism with sporting events. Essay, recommendation, acceptance letter to college.     Summit County Counselors' Association Scholarship

    Deadline: April 8
    Amount: $750
    Eligibility: Attend a school with a participating member of SCCA. Have a 3.25 GPA and plan to major in Education. Application

    Bath Volunteers for Service Merit Awards

    Deadline: April 9
    Amount: $750
    Eligibility: Student must be graduating high school and living within the Revere Local School District(Bath). Download the application

    Believe in Ohio STEM Scholarship

    Deadline: April 15
    Amount: $1,000 (99 will be awarded - one in each of Ohio's 99 House of Representative Districts).
    Eligibility: Junior or Senior in good academic standing who has involvement in a rigorous STEM or entrepreneurship competition or research project.

    Horatio Alger National Career & Technical Scholarship

    Deadline: April 15
    Amount: Varies up to $2500
    Eligibility: Pursuing a 2 year degree or less in technical degree/certificate program in a not-for-profit institution.  Must demonstrate financial need; applicants must be Pell grant eligible. Apply by visiting

    Accomplished Achiever Scholarship

    American Association of Drilling Engineers Scholarship

    Amount: $2,000 renewable for four years - up to ten will be awarded this year.
    Eligibility: 3.5 GPA or higher, 27 ACT Composite or SAT of 1200 or higher (must have 600 or higher in both verbal and math). Be enrolled in an accredited college in Ohio, Pennsylvania or West Virginia and considering a career in the oil and gas industry. Application



    Ohio Credit Union Foundation Scholarship

    Amount: $5,000
