STVM Mission & Athletics Philosophy

Mission Statement

In the spirit of the Gospel, we are committed to educate the whole person; to lead and to serve, enlightening the mind, developing the body, touching the heart, and inspiring the soul.
The Athletic Director is central to STVM’s mission of developing the whole person. Athletics at St. Vincent-St. Mary High School is not separate from our Catholic and Marianist identity. They are a living expression of it. Student-athletes are formed in faith, character, family spirit, and servant leadership on every field, court, and course.

Primary Purpose

To lead the Athletic Program in accordance with the mission of St. Vincent-St. Mary High School, a Catholic school in the Marianist tradition. This non-coaching role is responsible for leading, managing, and coordinating the school’s athletic activities and sports programs to promote athletics and physical fitness as positive extracurricular experiences. The position ensures all students have equal opportunities to participate and benefit from athletics, with a commitment to faith formation, character development, family spirit, and servant leadership.

Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Master’s degree in Education Administration, Athletic Administration, or Sports Management
  • Professional certifications (NIAAA: RAA, CAA, or CMAA)
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience managing or directing school athletic programs, or equivalent experience
  • Current CPR/AED certification (required); Virtus certification (or willingness to obtain)
  • This is a non-coaching position

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Proven leadership experience with high-performing staff and ability to align diverse perspectives
  • Knowledge of federal and state laws, including Title IX, OHSAA rules, and safety standards
  • Knowledge of NIL rules and regulations
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Ability to build and maintain strong relationships across the STVM community
  • Supervisory and performance evaluation experience preferred
  • Experience with fundraising, sponsorships, and community partnerships preferred

Major Responsibilities & Duties

Mission & Catholic Identity

  • Support, model, and advance the Catholic and Marianist mission of STVM

Program Leadership & Administration

  • Supervise athletic programs in coordination with the Principal and President
  • Recommend policies and procedures related to athletics
  • Evaluate programs and equipment to ensure safety and effectiveness
  • Serve as liaison to OHSAA, Booster Club, leagues, and related organizations
  • Ensure compliance with all laws, regulations, and school policies
  • Develop and execute a strategic vision aligned with STVM’s mission

Coaching Staff Management

  • Recruit, hire, supervise, and evaluate all coaches
  • Mentor and support coaches in professional growth and servant leadership
  • Ensure all coaches maintain proper certifications (CPR, AED, etc.)
  • Mediate conflicts with fairness and respect
  • Align all programs with STVM’s athletic philosophy

Student Development, Eligibility & Participation

  • Maximize student participation and promote equitable program access
  • Determine and communicate eligibility for all student-athletes
  • Track physical examinations and participation requirements
  • Establish criteria for awards and recognition
  • Support holistic development of student-athletes
  • Promote sportsmanship and leadership development

Facilities, Scheduling & Event Management

  • Oversee athletic facilities and scheduling for 19 varsity sports
  • Coordinate schedules with academic and school events
  • Manage event operations including band, ticketing, security, medical care, and facilities
  • Coordinate officials and referees
  • Manage transportation logistics
  • Administer community pass programs

Budget, Finance & Resource Management

  • Oversee athletic budgets and financial operations
  • Manage inventory of uniforms, equipment, and supplies
  • Develop annual budgets with school leadership
  • Collaborate with Advancement on fundraising, sponsorships, and partnerships

Communications & Community Relations

  • Partner with the Director of Communications and Marketing on media relations
  • Oversee athletics social media in alignment with STVM branding standards
  • Support promotion of athletic events across platforms
  • Serve as the public face of STVM athletics
  • Engage alumni, parents, and community members

Records, Safety & Compliance

  • Manage accident and injury reporting
  • Maintain accurate program records and documentation
  • Submit required OHSAA and state reports
  • Stay current on regulations and best practices
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Essential Physical Functions

  • Prolonged standing and/or sitting during events and administrative duties
  • Ability to lift up to 30 pounds
  • Active presence at athletic events, including evenings and weekends
