Part-Time Sports Performance Assistant

PRIMARY PURPOSE:
The Sports Performance Assistant shall have responsibility of collaborating with the Director of Sports Performance in the design and implementation of strength training and conditioning programs in‐season, off‐season, and pre‐season for all school‐sanctioned male and female athletic programs. The Sports Performance Assistant will assist the Director with schedule, attend, and supervise after school weight training programs.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
Assist in designing and implementing strength training and conditioning programs for all school‐sanctioned athletic programs
Collaborate with the Director to develop training schedules
Attend and supervise after school weight training programs
Assist in coaching weight training classes during the school day as assigned
Devote full attention to student-athletes during the workouts
Work in cooperation with the sports medicine or athletic training staff in the rehabilitation and strengthening of injured athletes
Facilitate a collaborative relationship among sport coaches, sports medicine, and the strength and conditioning staff
Assist in designing and implementing policies and procedures for the strength and conditioning program in accordance with the NSCA Strength and Conditioning Professional Standards Guidelines
Work with coaches to develop systems for tracking athlete attendance and progress
Determine and reinforce expectations for athlete conduct that mirror the school’s expectations for curricular and extra‐curricular activities, as stated in the school’s Student Code of Conduct
Establish and communicate weight room rules, guidelines, and expectations
Encourage every team to work out in the weight room in and out of season
Assist in the communication of strength and conditioning program objectives to coaches and athletes
Assist in organizing special events, banquets, signing days, acknowledgements, and speaker events
Assist as needed with summer camps
Carry out other duties as may be assigned by the Athletic Director and/or Principal
QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s Degree in Kinesiology or related field
A current relevant professional certification credentialed by an independent accreditation agency, such as the NSCA Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist® (CSCS®) certification
Current standard first aid, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), and automated external defibrillation (AED) certifications
A strong working knowledge and teaching skills in analysis and techniques of strength training
Experience in strength and conditioning programming for high school populations
Strong organizational skills
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
Strong motivational skills
Ability to interact positively with student-athletes, colleagues, and the public
Knowledge of NSCA Strength and Conditioning Professional Standards and Guidelines
Knowledge of universal hygiene precautions
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Work in standard office, school building, and athletic training environments
Visually monitor athletes
Prolonged periods of sitting, standing, and walking
Regular use of fingers and hands
Physically fit and able to demonstrate appropriate techniques to athletes
Swift movement, lifting, carrying, and moving work-related supplies and equipment
Lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds
