PenOhio is a creative writing competition that was founded in Ohio in 1986 as a way to elevate writing to the same competitive status as other extracurricular activities such as sports and mock trial. While it has been a successful program among middle school students, PenOhio finally launched their high school tournaments and supplemental writing workshops last year.
Each school is allowed two teams (freshmen/sophomores and juniors/seniors are grouped together) consisting of six per team. Leading up to the tournament, we will work on building creative writing skills through practice writing prompts and peer editing. When tournament time comes around in January, team members will be well practiced and ready to complete three writing samples over the course of the day.
