Model United Nations

STVM's Model United Nations team provides an opportunity for students to participate in debate regarding foreign affairs.
Are you interested in debate and the opportunity to learn about other nations while traveling the world? Do you have a good academic background, are you confident and do you like being in the spotlight?  Here are some of the qualities we look for in a delegate: assertiveness, the ability to speak your mind, and you are not shy when meeting new people or speaking in public.

If so, you should consider trying out for the nationally ranked St. Vincent- St. Mary Model United Nations Team. Model United Nations provides students with amazing opportunities to travel, meet new people, and develop skills that last a lifetime! Remember MUN can help you get into college.  Don't miss your opportunity to be a part of the team!

Tryouts will take place on June 3,2021. Please fill out the attached google form for time slots.

(Location TBD)

In order to try out for the team, students must give a 1-2 minute speech on the topic of the Right to Privacy in the Digital Age from the viewpoint of the People's Republic of China. The speech should be delivered as if the student were a Chinese delegate to the United Nations. Speeches do not have to be memorized. After giving their speech, the student may be asked a general question about their speech or the issue itself. Each student must fill out the attached google form.

STVM's Model United Nations team provides an opportunity for students to participate in debate regarding foreign affairs. It also allows students to join an intellectually driven and welcoming community within our school. Since its inception in 2010, the team has grown to become a close-knit and skilled group of delegates. We compete in local conferences hosted by the Cleveland Council on World Affairs that are attended by high schools from across Northeast Ohio. In addition to local conferences, we compete in multiple conferences throughout the East Coast that are attended by schools from throughout the world. We teach and value our leadership, love, and passion for international relations.

OUR TEAM WILL BE ATTENDING THESE LOCAL CONFERENCES:

  • Cleveland Council on World Affairs Model UN at the Cleveland Bar Association
  • Cleveland Council on World Affairs Model UN at Lorain Community College
  • Cleveland Council on World Affairs Model UN at Notre Dame College
We will also be attending the Ohio State Model United Nations Conference and defending our previous two Best Delegation championships.

OUR TRAVEL TEAM WILL BE COMPETING AT NUMEROUS OUT-OF-STATE CONFERENCES SUCH AS:

  • George Washington University Model United Nations Conference
  • John Hopkins University Model United Nations Conference
  • Carnegie Mellon University Model United Nations Conference
Last year, our team proved enormously successful, having won four Gravels, six Superior Delegations, nine Excellent Delegations, ten Honorable Mentions, and seven Position Paper Awards.
