Our service program stems from Jesus' command to love one another.
Our annual Adopt-A-Family program is our most impactful and longest-running service activity. Started in 1984 by long-time beloved teacher Luanne Jenkins Richardson V59, Adopt-A-Family annually provides Christmas for approximately 25 local families in need. Items such as clothing, toys, bicycles, and housewares fill the hallways of our school as our Peer Ministers spend countless hours wrapping these donated items.
Other programs include Operation Rice Bowl, food drives, a meal ministry and various philanthropic activities that vary from year to year. Additionally, each student completes a minimum of 25 hours of Christian service each year.
The page linked below provides service opportunities for students. Be sure to call or email the contact person in advance to set up a time for your service. Keep track of the dates and hours served. You will need your supervisor's name, phone number, and email address to submit the hours to x2VOL, the program that tracks your service hours. Many other agencies need your service - this list is just a starting point.
We make our commitment to the hungry and the homeless with food preparation as our personal connection to people in immediate need. On the first Wednesday of each month, we prepare 200 brown bag lunches for the homeless in the Greater Akron area. Students and staff join to make these meals in a spirit of solidarity and fellowship. The meal ministry allows our students, faculty & staff, alumni, and friends of St. Vincent-St. Mary to directly serve the immediate needs of the poor the first Wednesday of each month throughout the year. The ministry allows students to see and experience the struggles of our homeless friends in the greater Akron area.
This ministry is powerful as our students help prepare the meal, meet, and serve our poor brothers and sisters by coming to them at the local homeless shelters in our backyard. Students hand-deliver food, clothing, hygiene kits, etc. to those we visit. This helps to instill in our students that every human being has dignity and that we should be preferential in charity to the poorest among us. The monthly cost of this program is $300 and we hope you will consider an exciting underwriting opportunity of the St. Vincent-St. Mary Meal Ministry Program. We hope you will join us in our efforts to help people in need from our community.

x2VOLV, accessible through students' Naviance accounts, is our service hour tracking program.
Through x2VOL, students record hours and have them verified electronically by their supervisor. Hours submitted will be reviewed by Mrs. Spinner, the STVM Service Hours Coordinator, for approval. Students can view their service hour record and total hours served through their x2VOL account, which assists in the college and scholarship application process.
