Winter Sports Post-Season Information (3/9 Update)

Listed below is post-season information for all winter sports teams and individuals. Check back weekly for updates as our teams and athletes continue to advance. Good luck to all of our Fighting Irish athletes competing in the playoffs!


Current Seasons

Boys Basketball

  • Defeated #2 seed Revere in the District Championship game 42-45.
    • This is the boys basketball team's 12th straight District Championship and 30th overall.
      • Will face Youngstown Chaney on Thursday, March 12 at 6:15 pm at the Canton Civic Center in the Regional Semi-Finals.

Wrestling

  • District Recap
    • Over the weekend, four wrestlers advanced out of the Alliance District and to the OHSAA State Championship weekend. Wrestling will begin on Friday, March 13 in the Schottenstein Center in Columbus.
      • 113 - Kenny Crosby - 3rd Place
      • 120 - Dierre Clayton - 3rd Place
      • 126 - Elliot Alessia - 2nd Place
      • 220 - George Linberger - 2nd Place
      • 182 - Bryson Getz - 5th Place (Alternate) 
  • Sectional Recap
    • On Saturday, February, 29, nine wrestlers placed at Sectionals at Beachwood High School and advanced to District competition this weekend at Alliance High School. The overall team placed second behind Aurora with a total of 207 points.

Track (indoor)

Girls

  • Girls 4x800 Relay: First Place; State Champions! (Theresa Hagey, Laney King, Emily Bame and Natalie Tobin)
    • Set a new indoor state meet record with a 9:35.93! This breaks the record set by STVM in 2013.
  • Girls 60M Dash: 3rd Place (Kya Epps with a lifetime PR of 7.68!)
  • Girls 4x200 Relay: Fifth Place (Kya Epps, Aminah Claxton, Kaylan Liggins and Olivia Mathis)
  • Girls 1600M: 13th Place (Theresa Hagey)
  • Girls 400M: 7th Place (Aminah Claxton ran a lifetime PR for indoor track!)
  • Girls 800M: 5th Place (Natalie Tobin) & 11th Place (Emily Bame). They both ran lifetime indoor PRs!

Boys

  • Boys 4x800 Relay: First Place; State Champions! (Chase Powers, Nate Snipes, Andrew McSteen, and Nasari Epps)
    • Ran the 4th fastest time in indoor state history with an 8:05.91!
  • Boys Pole Vault: 19th Place (Blake Sifferlin)
  • Boys 4x200 Relay: 15th Overall (Darrian Lewis, Mason Stevens, Desmond Manley and Theron Mascalenhas)
  • Boys 800M: 10th Place (Nasari Epps) & 20th Place (Chase Powers). They both ran lifetime PRs for indoor track!

Completed Seasons

Bowling

  • Micah Smith (senior) finished in 17th place in Columbus at the OHSAA State Bowling Match, but he did not advance.
    • He is now only the second boys bowler in STVM history to qualify for the State match.
  • On Sunday, March 1, Micah won the individual high game (247) and high series (473 for 2 games) awards at the Conference Championship Tournament at Stonehedge.
  • Micah finished his 2019-2020 campaign with a season average of 213.
  • Congratulations to Micah on a great senior season!

Competition Cheer

  • Took second place at the Buckeye State Championship competition at Dublin-Jerome High School on February 23.
    • Congratulations on a great season, ladies!

Girls Basketball

  • Lost 61-60 to Beaumont in the Sectional Finals.

Gymnastics

  • Ilana Boykin placed 42nd overall at Sectionals, but did not advance to District competition.

Swimming

  • No swimmers advanced out of District competition. District events/places are listed below:
    • Boys 200 Medley Relay - Drew Vereecken, Ethan Chicoski, Matthew O'Connor and Brenden Tomaszewski - 29th Place
    • Boys 200 Freestyle Relay - Drew Vereecken, Brendan Tomaszewski, Matthew O'Connor and Ethan Chicoski - 14th Place
    • Boys 500 Freestyle - Drew Vereecken - 20th Place
    • Boys 200 Freestyle - Drew Vereecken - 30th Place
    • Boys 50 Freestyle - Ethan Chicoski - 26th Place
    • Boys 200 Individual Medley - Brendan Tomaszewski - 29th Place
    • Girls 200 Individual Medley - Kate Saum - 26th Place
    • Girls 500 Girls Freestyle - Kate Saum - 20th Place
