STVM to Welcome Guatemalan Students Through "Faces & Our Cultures" Program

Mar 05, 2019

During the fall of the 2019-2020 school year, STVM will welcome 2-4 Guatemalan high school students to our campus through the Faces & Our Cultures Program. These young participants will spend nearly two months living with a host family while attending classes and participating in extracurricular activities at the school. The program's implementation in other US schools has led to wonderful friendships and has provided American students and Guatemalan guests with valuable cultural experiences.

In order to participate in the Faces Program, Guatemalan students apply to be Cultural Ambassadors of their country and are carefully selected by the Faces & Our Cultures Team. They go through a preparation process during the year and also prepare cultural projects to share with their host families and the school. This upcoming fall, the cultural ambassadors will arrive October 20, join our school community and host families for 7.5 weeks, and depart December 15. STVM is in need of 2-4 families to volunteer as host families for the visitors.

Please contact Ms. Colleen Demboski (cdemboski@stvm.com) or Mrs. Tamula Drumm (tdrumm@stvm.com) for more information, and please plan to attend the parent informational meeting on Wednesday, March 13 at 6:30 p.m. in room 345. In addition to this wonderful cultural immersion for the Guatemalan students, our STVM students are in turn invited to travel to Guatemala, stay with local host families, and immerse themselves in Guatemalan culture and society during the summer of 2020.
