STVM Students Compete at District Science Days

Eleven out of 20 of our St. Vincent-St. Mary students participating in District Science Fairs this March have qualified for State Science Day at the Ohio State University on May 11, 2019.
Maeve Gaffney and Abby May competed at the Northwest Ohio District Science Fair on March 2, 2019. Both students received a rating of superior qualifying them to move on to the State Science Day competition. Abby also won the Ohio Soybean Bioscience Award.
On March 16th, the 71st Western Reserve District 5 Science Fair was held at the University of Akron with over 300 students competing from Northeast Ohio. STVM had 15 students judged at the fair and nine have qualified to move on to State Science Day in Columbus on May 11. The following students scored a superior which allows them the privilege to move on to States:
- Freshmen: Laney King, Jimmy Warholy and Luke Werckman
- Sophomore: Lucy Chmura
- Juniors: Isabelle Davis, Kaitlin Kemp, and Mason Stams
- Seniors: Tingzhang “August” Li and Brennan Moll.
Several of the students also took home awards for placing in the top of their category and/or winning special sponsored awards that were particular to their area of study.
- Lucy Chmura - 3rd place Earth & Environmental Sciences $50
- August Li - 1st place Chemistry $100, Invitation to the Buckeye Science and Engineering Fair
- Andrew McSteen - American Society of Civil Engineers Award $100
Bailee McDaniel, Charles Gegick and Luke Gegick participated in the Mohican District 4 Science Day at Mt. Union on March 23, 2019 all 3 students received a score of Excellent.
Congratulations go out to all the students who participated at Districts. All 23 students did a wonderful job of representing our school at the district fair.
