Mar 04, 2019

St. Vincent-St. Mary Junior Sierra Spoerndle competed in the Global Youth Ambassador Scholarship competition this past fall and was recently notified that she was selected as one of only 120 American students to receive this prestigious award. She will be traveling this summer to Ecuador through the U.S. Department of State's Global Youth Ambassador Program to stay with a host family and engage in community service from June 17-July 10.

The Youth Ambassadors Program is sponsored by the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, U.S. Department of State, with funding provided by the U.S. Government. The program is administered by World Learning in partnership with Amigos de las Americas. Providing full scholarships to 120 US students and adult mentors, the US Youth Ambassadors Program is part of a wider youth leadership initiative bringing together high school students and adult mentors from 26 countries across the Western Hemisphere.

The Youth Ambassadors Program aims to develop a cadre of young adults who have a strong sense of civic responsibility, a commitment to their communities, an awareness of current and global issues, and strong interpersonal leadership skills. The program aims to promote mutual understanding, respect, and collaboration between people in the United States and other countries of the Western Hemisphere.

Congratulations to Sierra on this wonderful honor!
