Six STVM Students Receive Highest Rating at State Science Day in Columbus

State Science Day was held on May 12, 2018, at The Ohio State University. A team of 12 students from St. Vincent-St. Mary High School qualified to attend. Out of the 10 students attending, 6 scored the highest rating of superior. Earning the rating of superior were Senior: Molly Haines; Sophomores: Isabelle Davis, Landry McVicker and Kevin Rybka & Freshmen: Lucy Chmura and Maeve Gaffney. Earning the rating of excellent were Senior: Chao Hu; Sophomore: Kaitlin Kemp & Freshman:Andrew Ciccotelli and Abby May.

Some students also won special awards and/or scholarships. Freshman Lucy Chmura won the Soil and Water Conservation Award 1st place- $150. Freshman Maeve Gaffney won the Governor's Award for Excellence in Environmental Protection Research 2nd place - $100. Sophomore Izzy Davis won the EWI Award 1st place - $100 and The Governor's Thomas Edison Award for Advanced Materials 1st place - $1250 scholarship for any Ohio school. Senior Molly Haines won the American Chemical Society Columbus Section - Chemical Sciences Award Honorable Mention - $100.

This group of students did an awesome job representing St. Vincent-St Mary High School down in Columbus at State Science Day.  They all put a lot of work into their projects allowing them to make it to State Science Day. Congratulations to all of our science students for their hard work, effort, and dedication.
