AP Statistics Students Develop Mathematical Models in Barbie Bungee Jump Activity

Nov 10, 2020

Recently, Ms. Sanor's AP Statistics students were given rubber bands and dolls and asked to collect data on how far the doll would bungee using rubber bands. They collected data for bungee jumps ranging from one to seven rubber bands. They then used the data to create mathematical models using linear, quadratic & exponential equations. Once they chose the model they felt best represented the situation, they used it to predict how many rubber bands the doll would need in order to bungee off of the bleachers (height of 665 cm). The goal was for the doll to have the most fun without hitting her head!
