The goal of the Art Department here at St. Vincent-St. Mary is to nurture creativity in the context of the world around us. The art curriculum begins with Visual Literacy, an introduction to drawing and visual communication. The Art Department aims to stimulate the growth of skills and to help students in choosing a particular artistic path such as Design, Photography, Illustration or Three-Dimensional Art. The advanced courses offer a variety of alternatives and are geared to those students who want to challenge themselves in painting, drawing, and developing a better understanding of the history and culture of art. Students who will pursue a professional career in the visual arts prepare a portfolio. These works give a true and clear understanding of the ability, attitude and interest of the student. The Art Department is a very special place and remains a defining characteristic of STVM.
