Our Students

St. Vincent-St. Mary High School serves a diverse group of students from grades nine through twelve, without regard to race, creed or ethnic origin. Out student population is culturally and socio-economically varied.

An average of 97% of St. Vincent-St. Mary graduates enroll in four year colleges and universities across the country immediately upon graduation, with an average of one-third awarded academic and athletic scholarships.


Leadership

St. Vincent-St. Mary High School is fortunate to have an independent Board of Trustees in cooperation with the Headmaster, Chief Operating Officer (COO), administrative team, Chaplain and Campus Minister, faculty, parents, plus support organizations as well as religious direction from the Diocese of Cleveland.

2010-2011 - A Year of Many Achievements

  • National Merit Scholars - four seniors.
  • 3 AP Scholars with Distinction - Criteria: Score an average of 3.5 on all AP exams taken, and achieve a score of 3 or higher on 5 or more of these exams.
  • 7 AP Scholars with Honors - Criteria: Score an average score of at least 3.25 on all AP exams taken and achieve a score of 3 or higher on 4 or more of these exams.
  • 7 AP Scholars - Criteria: Score a 3 or higher on 3 or more AP exams.
  • National Honor Society - 72 new inductees.
  • STVM Academic Letters - 18 STVM students received Academic
    “Varsity” Letters.
  • Right to Life - STVM awarded “Best supporting High School.”
  • 22 Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion installed by The Diocese of Cleveland.
  • Catholic Commission 2010 Bishop William M. Cosgrove Youth Justice Award - STVM student.
  • Ohio Academy of Science District Science Fair held at The University of Akron - STVM received the top honor “Outstanding School Award” and 16 students earned a total of 22 special awards advancing to State Science Day competition in Columbus.
  • State Science Day - STVM Inquiry Team received the Harold C. Shaw Outstanding School Award and earned over $250,000 in scholarship
    opportunities and cash awards.
  • STVM/The University of Akron Research Experience - 11 students worked with 11University of Akron Polymer Scientists and Polymer Engineers to develop their science project.
  • ABIA Best Medicine Fair held at Inventor’s Hall of Fame in Akron - 7 STVM awardees including top honors for participation in the ABIA Summer Institute.
  • 3 STVM rocket teams qualified for Rocket Team National Finals in Manassas, VA.
  • National Security Language Initiative for Youth - STVM student awarded
    summer scholarship in Russia.
  • Model UN Club received “Distinguished Delegations” awards at the Hiram Model UN Conference.
  • Mock Trial Team received Best Attorney (Plaintiff) and Best Attorney and Best Witness (Defense) during regional competitions.
  • Honors Band at The University of Akron - two STVM students selected
    to participate.
  • Symphonic Band members earned highest scores at State competition.
  • Marching Band “Best Overall” at Akron St. Patrick’s Day Parade.
  • Governor’s Art Show - 18 student artists recognized at State competition.
  • Scholastic Art Competition - 2 Gold Key and 3 Silver Key recipients.
  • City of Akron Holocaust contest - 1st place (trip to Wash. D.C.) 2nd place and 5 honorable mentions - the most of any school in the area.
  • Outstanding Administrator in Support of Foreign Languages Award -
    Headmaster David Rathz.
  • 2010 Division II OHSAA State Championship - Girls Cross Country Team.
  • 2011 Division II OHSAA State Championship - Boys Track & Field Team.
  • 2011 Division II OHSAA State Championship - Boys Basketball.
  • 2010 Division II OHSAA State Champion Wrestler - individual state champion; 3 additional state qualifiers.
  • Track & Field Coach of the Year (Cleveland Plain Dealer) and Coach of the Year (Summit County Touchdown Club) - Dan Lancianese, Head Coach Track & Field and Head Coach Cross Country.
  • Coach of the Year (Cleveland Plain Dealer, Summit/Portage Touchdown Club) - Dru Joyce II, Boys Varsity Basketball Coach.
  • STVM Boys Soccer - First Team All Tri-County League, First Team All District, Senior All Star Game.
  • College athletic signings - 31 STVM seniors.
  • Akron Beacon Journal - Scholar Athletes - 2 STVM Students (GPAs of 4.3-4.1) and Honorable Mention Scholar Athletes - 16 STVM Students (GPAs of 4.1-3.4).
  • NEOCAA Athletic Director of the Year - Andy Jalwan, STVM Athletic Director.
  • Teachers of Excellence Award - 5 STVM Teachers selected by Ohio Magazine.
  • 3 Drama Productions with involvement of over 100 students: Blithe Spirit, It was a Dark and Stormy Night, and Thoroughly Modern Millie.
