Mission Statement
The purpose for the environmental conservation club (E.C.C.) is to promote awareness of the current state of our environment and to educate our STVM community on how to go "greener". This club is open to all students who have an interest in making our community a healthier place. Environmental Conservation Club meetings are on the 3 rd Monday of every month in Room #253
Our Goals
- Maintain the plastic recycling program
- Continue to educate our school community
- Provide activities and education during Earth Week
- Collect used magazines and donate them to local shelters
- Organize a school wide rummage sale with proceeds going to providing clean drinking water in developing countries
- Field trip to clean up a local park and then go hiking, canoeing/ kayaking
- Participate in community garden efforts
- Collect used cell phones and donate to battered woman’s shelter
- Organize the school wide collection of gently used school supplies at the end of the year. These supplies are donated through the following school year to students in need

Staying "Green" While in the Dorms
- Here are some tips for seniors on how to maintain an Earth-friendly lifestyle while on campus
- When microwaving food only use glass containers. Plastic and styrophome release chemicals into your food and are also bad for the environment.
- Walk or bike when ever you can! The college campus usually has many restaurants and activities close by and parking is scarce anyway. It will also help to keep the Freshman 15 away. ;)
- Purchase a metal thermos and bring it to your local coffee shop for coffee refills or your morning latte.
- Use your printer wisely. You can save paper by printing on both sides of the page.
- Buy a BPA free water bottle or metal refillable bottle for your water needs. A water filtration pitcher is also a good idea instead of buying packs of water bottles every week. It’s cheaper in the long run and better for our Earth.
- Recycle everything! Paper, plastic, metals, glass. You can even cut up old shirts and use them as cleaning rags.
- Try to only buy foods that are made organically and free of MSG. You can find these items at any grocery store.
- Recycle your graduation cards or cut out the design on the front and use them as gift tags.
- Buy all of your books “used”. It’s cheaper, it’s less wastefull, and at the end of the semester you will get about the same money back when you return them to store.
