Creative Writing Club
The STVM Creative Writing Club meets every week on Friday mornings at 7:30 a.m.

The students that participate either receive a prompt (a suggested topic) from their advisor,  Mrs. Anderson, or they are encouraged to select their own topic.

The completed assignments are reviewed the next Friday and students are given feedback from their peers and Mrs. Anderson.  The feedback is always  well received and encourages creative thought and enhances writing skills.

Here is a sample of a club member’s creative writing :

Where I am From

I am from the delivery room on the second floor, three doors to left in Akron General Hospital on Wabash Avenue

I am from the gray house, fourth from the corner, 1513 Superior Avenue, with the big gravel driveway. I’m from the wooden back porch with the chain swing, and the wasps hidden in the far corners.

I’m from the great backyard, a dandelion meadow on summer days and a blanket of snow on winter nights, from the big rock covered with poison ivy, from the stations, and the vegetable gardens out back.

I am from the neighborhood friends, from soccer matches and baseball games, from four square and basketball, from piling up leaves and building snow forts, from our plays and skits, from being together all the time and every day.

I’m from a vast brood of siblings, from the twists and turns in their lives, from their mistakes and masterpieces, I am from their teasing and tolerating, from their undying love and devotion.

I’m from the Great Lakes, from the sandy and seaweed strewn beaches, from the thousands of white shells and periwinkles which the tide brings in; I’m from the sand castles and sea glass, from the glorious sunrises and the even more glorious sunsets.

I’m from the places I’ve been and the things I have seen, I’m from the suffering I’ve witnessed and from the joy I’ve been a part of making. I’m from my inner struggles, and life-long battles, I from that which I’ve overcome.

I’m from the sophomore class of 2014; I’m from the wise fools, from what I think I know and what I have yet to learn. I am from the lower half of the alphabet, from my locker in the basement. I am from my classes and courses, from Creative Writing period eight, room number 322.

I’m from what I am yet to become, from what hasn’t happened. From what can or cannot be expected. I am from the past and the future, for what I have become today will be tomorrow’s past, and what I will become tomorrow is today’s future.
