Akron Community Foundation

Akron Community Foundation is a comprehensive, searchable website for Summit County Ohio high school students who are interested in pursuing a post-secondary education. Through this website, students and parents can search for available local scholarships and review information about college preparation. Corporations and private foundations can also post scholarships through the online submission tool.

Jack Kent Cooke Foundation College Scholarship Program

Deadline: November 4
Amount: Up to $40,000 per year over 4 years
Eligibility: Senior standing - Plan to graduate from a U.S. high school in spring 2015. Fall College Enrollment - Intend to enroll in an accredited four-year college beginning in fall 2015. GPA - Earn a cumulative unweighted GPA of 3.5 or above. Test Scores - Receive standardized test scores in the top 15%: SAT combined critical reading and math score of 1200 or above and/or ACT composite score of 26 or above. Income - Demonstrate significant unmet financial need. We will consider applicants with family income up to $95,000. However, we anticipate that a majority of scholarship recipients will be eligible to receive a Pell grant.. Fireside Essay Scholarship

Eligibility: Each Catholic High School can nominate one student for the contest. Interested students must submit their essays to their theology teacher for consideration. Write a 750 word essay about "How is your religious education influencing your life?" Complete one page application found in the guidance office or one of the Theology teachers.

University of Akron Army ROTC Scholarship

Eligibility:  Seniors with a GPA of 2.5 or higher and a 19 or higher on the ACT. Must serve wither 4 years active duty or 6 years in Reserves or National Guard.

The Mensa Foundation Scholarship Program

Eligibility: The applicant must be enrolled in a degree program in an accredited U.S. institution of higher learning during the academic year following the application date. JCI Senate Scholarship

Eligibility: Welcome to the US Junior Chamber International ( JCI) Scholarship Program. Playing With Purpose Scholarship

Eligibility: Top Four PWP finalists will receive a $2,000 College Scholarship. Top Twenty Finalists will receive a $300 SportQuest Scholarship. Optimist Club of Akron Oratorical Contest

Amount: $2,500-$2,500
Eligibility: For Students under the age of 18 as of October 1st. Contest rules/application available in room 240. Speech must delivered on March 1, 2016 at area location to be determined later in the year.


Buick Achievers Scholarship 

Deadline: February 28

Amount: Various

Eligibility: Students must intend to major in engineering, technology, design or business, and have an interest in the automotive industry. 1,100 scholarships will be awarded (up to $4.5 million in total). Applicants must be U.S. citizens and have permanent residence in the United States or Puerto Rico. Students must apply by February 28, 2013 (5:00 p.m. EST). University of Akron Choose Ohio First STEM Scholarship Program

Amount: Up to $5,200
Eligibility: Any high school senior or current UA students or transfers are eligible. The program awards scholarships up to $5,200 to students majoring in science, technology, engineering, math and medicine (or math/science education) at The University of Akron. The Archbishop Hoban Scholarships 

Deadline: March 1 
Amount: Various
Eligibility: The Archbishop Hoban Scholarships are offered to eligible seniors in the Catholic high schools of the Diocese. Accordingly, the following scholarships will be awarded:

  1. Scholarships to John Carroll University
  2. Scholarships to Notre Dame College
  3. Scholarships to Ursuline College
  • Nominees must be graduates of accredited high schools.
  • Nominees must carry full-time schedules at the college or university.
  • All nominees and recipients must start their scholarships with the next regular session following the award.
  • All nominees must meet entrance requirements of the college or university and be approved by the President.

Eligibility: You must write an essay. Please see the following information and additional information located at www.fieldsoflearning.org. Essays should tell us something you learned related to high school football.  This is not limited to experiences of actually being on the high school football team.  For example, maybe you learned something as a cheerleader, a band member or as a fan who attended games.  Maybe you learned something from an experience a friend or relative had.  Or maybe high school football had an impact on your school or your community that ultimately had an effect on you.  Really, anything you think of that has any connection at all to high school football is fine to submit.


Women's Network/Judith Resnik Scholarship Fund

Eligibility: Women graduating in Summit, Stark, Portage, Wayne, or Medina Counties Majoring in science, engineering, or math at an accredited university Must have 3.0 Cumulative Grade Point Average. Application available in guidance office.

WISE (Women in Sports and Events)

Eligibility: Scholarship for female residents of Cuyahoga, Lake, Geauga, Medina, Lorain, Summit or Portage Counties interested in pursuing a degree in sports management, events management, or related fields. This award is not given based on athletic skill or achievement. Amount of scholarship varies. Seniors accepted to an accredited college with a 2.75 GPA or higher who have shown a history of participation in event planning or volunteerism with sporting events. Essay, recommendation, acceptance letter to college. The Akron Optimist Club Scholarship

William D. Squires Scholarship

Deadline: April 5
Amount: $3,000 per year 
Eligibility: Based on financial need. The EFC on your FAFSA student Aid Report must be less than 8,000 to apply. Must have a career goal. Be highly motivated and have good character. Show academic promise; minimum of 3.20 GPA. Apply online: wmdsquiresfoundation.org


Summit Endodontic Specialists Scholarship

Eligibility: Must have at least a cumulative gpa of 3.0 for junior and senior year. Selection based on merit, community service and academic performance. Ohio Credit Union Foundation Scholarship

Eligibility: Create a 1 to 2.5 minute video answering the this question: "How has your credit union been centered on you and why should your peers go to a credit union for their financial needs?" Click Here for more details on the video contest and how to submit it. Any member of an Ohio-based credit uniion who is accepted to a college for any degree is eligible. 


Nordstrom Scholarship for High School Juniors 

Deadline: May 1 
Amount: $10,000
Eligibility: 

  1. Live and attend school in a state with a Nordstrom or Nordstrom Rack store.
  2. Have at least a 2.7 GPA.
  3. Volunteer or participate in community service or extracurricular activities.
  4. Plan on attending an accredited college or university during all four years over which the scholarship is distributed. (The scholarship is paid out in equal installments of $2,500.)
  5. Plan on applying for financial assistance in order to attend college.
