> INSPIRING AND ENLIGHTENING THROUGH CATHOLIC EDUCATION

St. Vincent - St. Mary High School (STVM) is a four-year, co-educational, college preparatory Catholic high school. We have been an integral part of the Akron community for more than 100 years, providing quality education rooted in Catholic faith. Our comprehensive curriculum provides our students with a strong academic and religious foundation that prepares them for college and beyond. More than 15,000 alumni are proud to be a part of our rich history.

We meet all standards of the Ohio Catholic School Accreditation Association, North Central Accreditation and the state of Ohio. St. Vincent-St. Mary High School is also teamed with The University of Akron to form Partners in Progress which provides STVM students with the advantage of special access to University resources.

>OUR STUDENTS

St. Vincent - St. Mary High School serves a diverse group of students from grades nine through twelve, without regard to race, creed, or ethnic origin. Our student population is culturally and socio-economically varied.

On average, 98 percent of our graduates pursue baccalaureate studies at public and private universities, with nearly 50 percent of each year's senior class receiving college scholarships or grants.

>Greetings from St. Vincent – St. Mary High School,
Welcome to www.stvm.com. We are glad you came to visit our website and hope you visit often. If you are researching the school, you will find this website helpful as an outline of the activities and the people involved here. You will find news and calendars helpful. You will find announcements about athletics and other extra-curriculars. Like all good websites, you will find links to our bookstore, and even our homework and grades online sources.

However, you will need to visit the school to gain a deeper understanding of how our students benefit on a daily basis from their educational experience at STVM. For example, our website cannot possibly give you an in-depth look at why our Religious Education is the best a Catholic school can offer. You might be able to read a list of courses, but that will not tell you how the religion classes, the retreats, and the Campus Ministry program embed religion into our students’ experiences on a daily basis, nor will it show you how our social studies classes and religion classes work together for students’ better understanding of the seven themes of Catholic Social Teaching and therefore, social justice issues. Without visiting the school, you will not comprehend how our English classes and foreign language classes reinforce each other’s instruction of language and writing development for our students. Likewise, you would need to talk with our staff or students to understand how math and science work together and why STVM has become known as THE School for Science and Technology. You will not be able to tell from the website how our physical education and health classes take the students from summer school to daily living. You will not be able to see very much of how art and music dramatically improve our students’ test scores as well as provide the outlet for creativity. Indeed, you would have to see for yourself how our drama program and our computer classes teach students skills they use every day in high school and beyond.

So, we indeed welcome you to our website and hope you will find it quite informative. But if you are interested in seeing the excellence in all endeavors provided to the students at St. Vincent – St. Mary, you will need to see it live and in action. At the very least, plan to come to one of our Open Houses to meet students and staff and talk to them about their experiences. One of our parents told me we should use the slogan, “St. Vincent – St. Mary - everything you want in a High School,” but he was only able to conclude that because of his direct experience with his son and daughter attending our school.

Websites are wonderful sources of information, but they cannot tell the whole story. Come visit us and hear more of our story. Come see why our popularity and enrollment have increased by 26%. Come see why our test scores and our college scholarships for graduates have soared. Come talk with administrators, faculty and staff, students and parents: anyone can tell you STVM is the premier Catholic co-educational high school in the area.
And thank you for visiting www.stvm.com .

Sincerely,
David V Rathz
Headmaster
