Joe Jakubick enters his 8th year as Head Coach of the Fighting Irish Girls Basketball Team while lengthening his coaching career to 14 years. Coach Jakubick states, “I am very excited for the upcoming basketball season. We return two starters, senior Taja Dave, who is the heart of the paint, and sophomore Shannon Jack, a guard who can slash through any defense. With a large graduating class last year, I feel we have young players that are ready to step in and contribute. Being slightly inexperienced on the varsity level compared to other teams, I feel these players are capable of handling their responsibilities. With an extremely challenging schedule, this year will hasten the development of our young players. We will be relying heavily on leadership of our returning starters, Taja Dave and Shannon Jack, as well as seniors, Andrea Hubbard and Katlin May. Andrea may be our most improved player as she continues to work hard. She is the spark of our team, bringing an undeniable passion and energy that is much needed for this challenging season. Three more sophomores that will play significant minutes and be key contributors for our team include, guards, Cassie Jakubick and Kiley May, as well as forward, Jordan Korinek. Junior forward, Erica Bratton looks to help our team down low after enduring a season ending injury last year. Other juniors who are eager to deliver are Anna VanNewkirk, Maria Skora and Brianna White.”
