![]() ![]() On December 11, 2002, The University of Akron and STVM established Partners in Progress to advance science education. This program gives our students access to university resources so they are better prepared for college, while also providing unique support to students and professors in the university’s College of Education and the College of Arts and Sciences. Through the partnership, STVM students collaborate with research scientists, undergraduates and graduate students on university research projects, while future teachers and scientists from the university mentor STVM students in completing their science inquiry projects. Students also participate in university programs that feature field-based research, camp activities and virtual field trips. All of this is accomplished through student visits to the university via video conferencing or distance learning technology and is based on teaching and learning through the unique science inquiry method. In return, future science teachers attending The University of Akron use distance learning to observe the science inquiry method in practice at STVM, as well as experience teaching with this method at our high school.
