St. Vincent - St. Mary Alumni Relations

In 1887, Rev. Dr. Thomas F. Mahar was commissioned to establish a Mission in south Akron to be known as St. Mary’s.  The parish was formally established in 1896 and in the fall of 1897, the first Catholic high school opened its doors to students.  The first class to graduate was in 1901.   In 75 years of operation, St. Mary High School graduated 4,351 students.

St. Vincent High School opened in September of 1907, also founded by Rev. Dr. Thomas F. Mahar who was the pastor of St. Vincent Parish.  In 65 years of operation, St. Vincent High School graduated 6,626 students.

In 1972, St. Vincent and St. Mary High Schools became St. Vincent-St. Mary High School.   As of 2006, STVM has graduated 5,698 students.

With our combined histories, our schools have graduated over 16,000 students.  Our alumni constitute a varied and important part of our school community.  We celebrate this richness and encourage alumni to remain in touch.  Even though the halls and walls of the schools have changed, its soul remains intact.  Stay connected and feel free to pay a visit to your alma mater.

The Alumni Office maintains the alumni database and webpages, publishes the Alumni Connection “newsletter”, preserves historical archives, acts as the liaison between the Alumni Association and the school, and provides class lists for class reunion organizers.

Please contact the St. Vincent-St. Mary High School Alumni Director, Kathy Zehenni Holaday VM77 (330-253-9113 Ext. 120). We always enjoy hearing from you and appreciate the help you provide us in staying connected with our many alumni. We are here to serve you. Please keep your "alumni connection."
