Mathematics

All students must complete three credits of mathematics in order to fulfill the State's graduation requirements.  These must include one full year of Algebra I, Geometry, and Algebra II.  Only students with an I.E.P. in either the Learning Disabilities program or Special Education program will be exempt from this requirement.

The Mathematics Department highly recommends that students in Grades 9 and 10 have a TI-83 or TI-84 plus graphing calculator.  These calculators are required for students in all courses in Grades 11 and 12.

A student with at least a "B" average in his/her current mathematics course may move up one level, except for the students wishing to move into the Honors Program.  These students will need special permission from the Department Head.   A junior, however, may not select a senior mathematics course which  is a level above the current level.  A student earning a "C-" or better may not drop down a level.

Summer Math OGT Preparation

St. Vincent-St. Mary High School has initiated a Math Lab for students to extend their mathematical ability and experience.

Each student will attend and participate in at least one Math Lab each quarter.

Students can sign out of their study halls to come to Math Lab to participate in a wide variety of mathematical activities including gathering and modeling data, solving real life problems, creating geometric solutions, standardized test preparation (OGT, PSAT, PLAN, SAT, and ACT), and improving study skills in mathematics.
