| To be an educational
leader, while teaching the science inquiry
method, STVM has embraced science technology and uses it to
its fullest advantage. In order for students to collect the data
that is required for their inquiry-based
science projects, they must have access to the tools that will
make this research possible.
For this reason, the new Center has acquired
the latest digital technology, including:
 |
Two 62-inch LCD projection televisions |
 |
Eight-foot powered ceiling projection
screen |
 |
30 computer stations, including both
desktop and laptop computers with wireless capabilities |
 |
SMART Board™ Sympodium, an electronic
white board that interfaces with the instructor's classroom
to create an interactive learning environment. The SMART Board
uses VGA image technology for greater image quality and flexibility.
|
 |
Panasonic integrated projection system |
 |
Four integrated classroom video cameras
for use in distance learning over a Microwave 12-megabit connection
to The University of Akron's distance learning IP network |
 |
Digital Elmo document camera with lab
attachment |
 |
Two 42-inch mounted Gateway instructor
plasma teaching monitors by lab workstations |
 |
Microphones at every table and lab desk
(one for every two students) |
 |
FM wireless instructor microphone |
 |
Unique AMX Madero Classroom Control System
that allows University of Akron personnel to access and troubleshoot
the system over the Internet for the highest level of technical
support. |
 |
Custom color-matched instructor desk
made specifically for the Center for Science & Technology
|
 |
Custom color-matched, front-integrated
LCD shelving system for the front of the classroom to allow
for storage of classroom media and materials |
 |
Custom-built, rack-mounted classroom
computer |
 |
Videocassette recorder/player |
 |
DVD player |
 |
Overhead lab desk camera |
 |
Color printer and matching table |
 |
Custom decal classroom identifiers for
St. Vincent-St. Mary High School distance learning classroom
system |
 |
Polycom speaker telephone |
 |
Instructor LCD monitor |
 |
Extron Pop-Up system |
 |
1.8-terabyte Dell storage server for
storing student projects |
STVM has also configured its Distance
Learning Lab unlike any other similar facility in the area.
Because there are four student cameras, instead of one or two like
in other facilities, it allows for greater interactivity. The instructor
is free to move about the room using a wireless lapel microphone.
Microphones at every table and lab desk average one microphone per
two students. VGA image technology provides greater image quality
and flexibility, in real-time, than most other facilities statewide.
Another unique element is the two-way collaborative data technology,
which no other high school has.
