The Center for Science & Technology celebrated
its grand opening in the fall of 2004. Members of the STVM community
were invited to explore the new Center, while students demonstrated
some of the Center's exciting new capabilities. Dr. Luis Proenza,

helped showcase the new facility. In 2003, STVM and UA formed Partners
In Progress to advance science education.
In other news:
- About 60 students “visited” NASA during the school’s
first virtual videoconference on February 3. The science students
spent an hour and a half “inside” NASA as space teams
prepared for travel. Then they found themselves “aboard”
the International Space Station, as astronauts continue their
work to improve life on Earth and extend life beyond our planet.
- On April 12, Dr. Donald Ott from The University of Akron (UA)
gave a special presentation to biology students, through our Partners
in Progress program with UA. Using digital microscopes and the
new technology in our theatre, our students watched the amazing
world of freshwater pond life on a stage-to-ceiling screen.
- Sixteen
students competed at State Science Day at Ohio State University.
Thirteen of these students received the highest state rating
of “Superior” and three received “Excellent.”
This earned the team the honor of receiving the Harold C. Shaw
Outstanding School Award in 2005. STVM also earned this honor
in 2000 and 2002.
- “Team Charlie” selected
for Team America Rocketry Challenge.
