Celebrate Our Achievements
Not only have our students excelled in the
classroom, they’re also very accomplished in co-curricular
activities and in various science competitions. Here are a few of
our recent achievements. Check back regularly for updates.
> 2005 SCIENCE
INQUIRY TEAM
In 2005, 21 students presented their science inquiry projects at
the district science competition held at The University of Akron,
with 16 members advancing to State Science Day. STVM also received
the Outstanding School Award for Science for having the greatest
number of students advance to the state competition and for having
the highest percentage of students who received a “Superior”
rating.
Sixteen students
competed at State Science Day at Ohio State University. Thirteen
of these students received the highest state rating of “Superior”
and three received “Excellent.” This earned the team
the honor of receiving the Harold C. Shaw Outstanding School Award
in 2005. STVM also earned this honor in 2000 and 2002.
> ROCKETRY
TEAM CHALLENGE
The Rocketry Team Challenge, the world’s largest model rocket
contest, is sponsored by the Aerospace Industries Association (AIA)
and the National Association of Rocketry, in partnership with NASA
and 20 AIA member companies. The STVM Rocketry Team is sponsored
by National Machine Company, located in Stow, Ohio.
The contest requires that students design,
build and test a model rocket to meet varying criteria each year,
while successfully carrying a payload of two raw eggs.
In 2005, STVM received national recognition
for the second year in a row when "Team Charlie" was chosen
to participate in Team America Rocketry Challenge (TARC). Only the
top 100 qualifying teams are invited to compete nationally. Eight
other teams were from Ohio. In 2004, STVM sent three teams to Team
America Rocketry Challenge, and finished 10th, 21st,
and 39th.
